A photograph depicting the western (ocean-facing) and southern facades of Hammersmith Farm, located on Harrison Avenue. A wooden fence and lawn are visible at foreground; a garden with a stone wall is visible at right. Typewritten stickers on reverse read: "Hammersmith Farm - View from the West Lawn and Narragansett Bay Mr. and Mrs. Hugh D. Auchincloss and their seven children summered in Newport at their 'Hammersmith Farm' estate. Among the many social events held at the 'summer cottage' was the wedding reception of daughter Jacqueline Bouvier and Sen. John F. Kennedy on Sept. 12, 1953. Pink-striped tents on the West Lawn accomodated twelve hundred wedding guests for dinner. Hammersmith later became known as a 'Summer White House' during the Kennedy Administration, 1961-1963."
