Description
An Italian Baroque Pietra Dura center table (Italian, 17th century), with a rectangular top inlaid with a large lapis oval in the center and surrounded by onyx borders. It is flanked by four trophies emblematic of the arts and sciences. In each corner is a double-headed eagle underneath a crown. Throughout the table top are stylized cornucopia and fruiting branches of pears, cherries, peaches, and other fruit in a variety of specimen hard stones on a white ground. The table top is raised on trestle supports carved with vases of fruit.
