Description
A LOUIS XIV TABLE TOP AND STAND (French, c. 1680 with 19th century additions), the engraved brass, pewter and brown tortoiseshell premiere-partie boulle marquetry table top is supported by a brass-inset ebonized and gilt-wood figural stand. The rectangular panel is veneered with pewter and brass on a brown tortoiseshell ground to form a central roundel incorporating darts and foliate sprays. It is fitted above an ebonized frieze with one narrow drawer, raised on four baroque giltwood figures of putti joined by ebonized stretchers above paw feet. The table top and figural legs date to around 1680 while the shaped stretcher and table mount date to the 19th century.
