Description
An American Chippendale mahogany pole screen (Newport or New England, c. 1755-1775). The large rectangular screen, with a later adjustable brass bracket, is supported on a tall stem accented with a spiral flame finial and terminating at an urn-shaped support decorated with a horizontal ring turning. The whole is set on an arched tripod base with primitive ball and claw feet. The screen is a panel of wood on which a Florentine stitch needlepoint depicting a flowering vine motif is attached.
