Description
An American Chippendale mahogany easy chair (Newport, c. 1750-1790). The chair has outswept scrolled arms below serpentine-shaped wings and an arched crest rail. The straight seat rail is supported by two cabriole legs terminating in ball and claw feet. The knees are accented with shell carvings. Two splayed back legs terminate in block feet. All four legs are joined by four spindle and block turned stretchers. Upholstered in a modern red silk and cotton damask.
