Description
AN AMERICAN QUEEN ANNE MAHOGANY SETTEE (Rhode Island, possibly Newport, circa 1740-90) in the form of two chair backs with shaped crests and scrolling frames centering two urn-form splats. The outwardly curved arms are on columnar supports and the shaped seat rail centers a trefoil drop. Its raised on five legs, with two cabriole front legs terminating in pad feet, the knees with primitive shell carvings, the squared back legs splayed and joined by two turned stretchers. The slip seat is covered green horsehair fabric.
