Description
A SET OF FOUR AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY SIDE CHAIRS (American, Newport, circa 1780) of a former suite of ten seats (two armchairs and eight sidechairs). The crest rail and pierced splat are decorated with gadrooning and carvings. The square seat is upholstered in modern blackberry colored leather and supported on four square legs. The two front legs are carved with stop-fluting, while the two back legs are splayed at the bottom, box stretchers. Attributed to John Townsend, 1732-1809.
