ONE FRAMED OIL ON PAPER VIEW OF THE "HESSIAN HOUSE" (American, circa 1867) BY DAVID MAITLAND ARMSTRONG (1836-1918). The Hessian House (demolished circa 1898) was an 18th century farmhouse on Paradise Avenue in Middletown owned by the Barker family in the 19th century and the subject of oil paintings by John La Farge as well as Armstrong.
