Description
A CRAYON PORTRAIT OF MASTER WILLIE R. HUNTER (1859) by Richard Morrell Staigg (American, 1817-1881). The subject, aged one year, five months, is viewed at bust length, wearing open chemise and curly hair. Drawn at Newport, RI by the artist on January 10, 1859. William Robinson Hunter, b. 1858, was the son of Thomas Robinson Hunter (1809-1890) and Fanny (Wetmore) Hunter of Newport. He was also the grandson of Sen. William Hunter and Mary Robinson Hunter of the Hunter House. In 1894, Willie married Edith Norman of Belair, Newport, daughter of George H. Norman and Abbie Durfee Norman. They resided in Middletown and had a daughter Edith Hunter in 1895.
