Description
A SET OF GEORGE E. VERNON & CO. VICTORIAN DINING RM. ARMCHAIRS (American, 19th century) original to the Dining Room in Kingscote. They were supplied by McKim Mead & White and are made of mahogany with caned seats. The two front legs are on casters and are turned. The two rear legs are splayed. The swell-front seat has a conforming apron. The armrests are downswept, ending in scrolls. The triple-arched back is concave with a rounded crest rail, circa 1880. Hand-sewn tool marks are visible beneath seat rail. They are fitted with horsehair upholstered, leather-covered, padded seat cushions (button-tufted).
