Description
A BAROQUE STYLE REPOUSSÉ SILVER EWER WITH UNRELATED BASIN; the Ewer (English, dated 1873) was made by Samuel Jackson, apprentice to Walter Jackson (circa 1815), the Regent's (William IV) silver maker (dated 1873).
.1= EWER: The ewer has a spiraled pear-shaped body with a shell-form neck and lip. The spirals are decorated with repoussé growing flowers. The circular foot is decorated with leaves and shells, the loop handle with two cast female satyre seated on either side (one the shoulder, the other at the handle). There are two putti on the handle, while the stand has eight convex lobes decorated with repoussé flowers. There is a classical 17th century Dutch style scene in the center. The inscription on the side reads "to EMA".
.2= BASIN: The ornate repoussé basin features an overall floral design with three wide short floral feet. There are illegible initials engraved on one side with the date reading: "16 May, 1833".
