A WALNUT PARTNERS' DESK (French, mid 19th century) made in Paris and elaborately carved with figures at each corner depicting music, history, science & art. Signed in plaque: "Gueret Freres, Paris." Denis-Desire and Onesime Gueret were brothers working from 1853 as Gueret Freres, from 1867 as Gueret Jeune et Compagnie, and continuing on at least to the 1880s. The company exhibited all types of furniture in traditional 'Louis' styles, including rustic furniture, throughout their history. The desk top is monogrammed 'WHR' over the kneehole.
