Description
A WHITE OAK HALL CHEST (English, circa 1883) custom-designed by William Morris & Co., London for Miss Catherine Lorillard Wolfe's Newport summer residence "Vinland" (Peabody & Stearns, architects). The lidded recessed paneled top and front are carved with antique Runic and Norse designs after William Morris. The interior is fitted with a lead liner for use as a cellarette or planter. The sides are fitted with ornate wrought iron handles.
