Description
A PAIR OF BONDED STONE FIGURAL PLANTERS (French, 19th century) featuring fauns and leaves holding up the basin. They were inspired by a series of fountains in the gardens of Versailles designed by Charles Lebrun and cast in 1669-1670 by the sculptor Pierre Legros the Elder (French, 1629-1714). Originals connect the Parterre Du Nord and the Bassin de Neptune along the Allee d'Eau. The seven groups at Versailles are known as the "Marmousets of the Allee d'Eau".
