Description
An early Louis XV ormolu-mounted kingwood parquetry commode (French, c. 1740) by Jean Baptiste Hedouin (d. 1783, French). It has a serpentine-fronted molded mottled brown, beige, and white marble top above two short and two long serpentine-fronted quarter-veneered drawers. It is supported on bracket feet with ormolu mounts cast with a central shell in a scrolling leaf surround and flanking a central scalloped drop with an ormolu mask. The rounded corners are fitted with brass flutes. The drawers are separated by brass fluting and fitted with three ormolu cartouche-shape key escutcheons surmounted with shells and six flowerhead knob handles. a = commode b = marble top
