Description
A pair of George III mahogany library armchairs (English, c. 1770) upholstered in contemporary eighteenth-century needlepoint. The chairs have straight backs with curved arms, and are supported on reeded straight legs attached by stretchers.
.1 - The seat depicts Miriam discovering the baby Moses in a basket in the reeds. On the back of the chair is an unidentified scene of a woman below an angel in flight with a jug in the foreground and a resting boy behind.
.2 - The seat depicts the Sacrifice of Isaac. On the back is an unidentified scene of a man seated by a waterfall with two birds in the sky, one bringing down the host.
