Description
A transitional Regency to Louis XV style walnut bergere or fauteuil de malade (a patient chair) (French, c. 1710 - 1730). The fully upholstered cartouche-shaped back rises above padded armrests raised on voluted supports. The serpentine seat with a removable cushion is above a conforming scroll carved apron surrounding a stylized shell. The whole is raised on four cabriole legs with carved flowerhead decoration at the knees and terminating in scroll feet. The upholstered sections are done in a contemporary gros-point needlework fabric decorated with large beige and red flowers and green vines on a cream colored ground. Some of the edges feature brass upholstery tacks. a = chairs b = cushion
