Description
AN AESTHETIC MOVEMENT SILVER PLATE CALLING CARD STAND BY DERBY SILVER COMPANY (American, circa 1880). The bracketed base is decorated with Japonesque motifs supporting upright naturalistic oak branches, with a perched butterfly and a pair of owls at the top. A fan-shaped tray platform joined to branches flares out to hold cards and is decorated with an incised bamboo shoot, lily-of-the valley stem, sheet music score and daisies on a stamped ground. It is inscribed: "Should Owl'd [sic] Acquaintance be Forgot" and engraved "Nettie 1881".
