PORTRAIT OF MR. WILLIAM GREENOUGH (French, c. 1905) by Paul César Helleu (French, 1859-1927). The subject, William Greenough (1874-1949), is depicted at bust length, facing left in profile, wearing a jacket, a high white collar, and a brown bowtie. The work is signed in pencil on the lower left corner “a Charlotte Greenough Helleu avec sa vielle amitie.” The original giltwood frame has a linear border and an interior egg and dart band. A portrait of his wife Charlotte Warren Greenough, PSNC.2034, is also in our collection.
