Description
A Brussels Gothic tapestry that depicts a proclamation scene. It shows a king standing in a flowing robe, wearing a beret, and surrounded by courtiers. He holds a mace in his right hand, his left is raised. He is surrounded by many people and dog. Tapestry has a symmetrical floral border.

Purchased by James Duke around 1923 to hang in Rough Point Dining Room; in 1953 when Rough Point was closed up and contents sent to other Duke properties, this tapestry was sent to Duke University where it hung in the Reference Room of the West Campus Library. In 1957 Doris Duke decided to re-establish a residence at Rough Point and requested the tapestry back from Duke Library. It has hung in the Dining Room of Rough Point since July 1957.
