Portrait of Gouverneur Morris

A PASTEL ON PAPER PORTRAIT OF GOUVERNEUR MORRIS BY ALFRED-GEORGES HOEN (French, 1869-1954). This portrait, done in 1922, is a copy of an earlier work by Sharples. Gouverneur Morris (1752-1816) is depicted at bust length facing left in three-quarters view and wearing a black coat against a blue ground. The frame is glazed with reverse painted and gilded border. On the front of the frame, an engraved metal plate reads, "Gouverneur Morris 1752-1816".
