Description
Photograph of the main stair landing at Marble House. The walls and floor are marble and ornate gilded sculptures decorate the ceiling. Marble roundel portraits of on the right, Jules Hardouin Mansart, architect of Louis XIV at Versailles, and on the left, Richard Morris Hunt, architect of Marble House. They were commissioned by Mrs. Alva Vanderbilt Belmont in honor of R.M. Hunt. Between them stands a marble bust of Louis XIV. These objects are original to Marble House.
