Description
A blue and white porcelain plate decorated with a hunting scene (Chinese, Qing Dynasty, 1644-1911). The hunting scene depicts two men on horseback hunting small animals with a bow and arrow in a rocky landscape. The rim of the plate outside of this scene is decorated with a stylized flower and vine pattern. On the reverse the rim is decorated with flower stalks and the center is marked with an apocryphal Ming dynasty Chenghua mark (1465-87). It is not uncommon to find 15th-century Ming dynasty reign marks on Qing dynasty blue and white porcelain, these apocryphal reign marks were copied by Chinese artisans out of respect for these earlier periods.
