A BLUE AND WHITE FAIENCE MONEY BOX (French, 19th century) shaped like a barrel with a detachable cover. There is a slit in the top for coins, a blue & white decorative frieze around the top and bottom, and wrapping around the center is an inscription in French reading "Qui ne songe qu’à soi quand la fortune est bonne, Dans le malheur n’a point d’amis", which translates to "Who thinks only of himself when his fortune is good, In misfortune has no friends", a famous French colloquialism by the writer Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian.
