A BLACK ON WHITE SILHOUETTE OF "MAJOR THOMAS WALKER OF CASTLE HILL 1715-1794" (American, 18th century). The silhouette depicts Major Thomas Walker from shoulders up in profile looking right. The inscription below reads "Major Thomas Walker of Castle Hill 1715-1794. He married Mildred Thornton Merriweather, granddaughter of Lawrence Washington & cousin of George Washington. His son Francis Wolfe was aide de camp to General Washington and U.S. Senator from Virginia. Major Walker was first in Kentucky, Member of House of Burgess, Committee of Safety, and was Pioneer Explorer and QM general of the Colonial Pioneer Forces. He was guardian of Thomas Jefferson and founded Charlottesville (VA) where he ran the Law School."
