Description
A FIVE PIECE SILVER TEA SERVICE (American, mid 19th century) by Gale & Hayden, NY and William Gale and Son, NY, comprising of a teapot (.1), a coffee pot (.2), a covered sugar bowl (.3ab), a creamer (.4), and a slop basin (.5). They have egg-shaped bodies and are decorated with rural landscapes in elaborate relief. The teapot (.1), coffee pot (.2), and the sugar bowl (.3ab) have tall domed covers with pointed finials, and all but the slop basin have foliate handles. The initials "MAK" (for Maud Gwendolen King Armstrong, 1876-1968) are engraved on the side. The slop basin is stamped "Wm. Gale and Son" while all the other pieces are stamped "G & H" for Gale & Hayden.
