Description
A COIN SILVER MOUNTED OSTRICH EGG CUP WITH COVER (Chinese, c. 1850) purchased by Mr. Francis Morris (1844-1883) while in China. The top of the shell has been sliced off in order to form the cover. It is topped by an ostrich shaped silver finial. Below the finial is a silver tower with flames rising from it (this image comes from the Morris family crest) and the initials "FM" for Francis Morris, the coin silver base is shaped to look like a stalk with leaves rising from the earth.
