Description
A PAIR OF K’ANG HSI PORCELAIN VASES (Chinese, early 18th century) with polychrome enamel decoration. Flared necks lead to bulbous bodies, and each sits on a ring base. The bodies are painted with Islamic-influenced arched panels with alternating scenic and calligraphic decoration, the latter relates to the happy travels of a party journeying thorough the southwest mountains. The necks are decorated with a floral motif and a blue medallion at center. The flared openings have a scalloped edge and an orange glaze around the rim. Both have K’ang Hsi reign marks on the underside, K’ang Hsi (r. 1662-1722) was the second Emperor of the Qing Dynasty.
