Description
ONE GILT BRONZE MANTEL CLOCK (French, 19th century) in the French Directorie style. The clock works are housed in a square case which sits on a large rectangular base raised on four ornamented bracket feet. The clock is surmounted by a female figure in Grecian robes holding a lyre and cupid with a quiver and arrows to her side. The clock face has roman numerals to denote the hour, moths in raised relief decorate the corners, and the dial is surrounded by a ring ornamented with musical instruments. On the front of the base in bas relief a panel depicts two cherubs pulling a chariot carrying a maiden, followed by two cherub musicians. Originally from the Malbone estate in Newport.
