A pair of “Malabar” figural candelabras (German, late 19th century) by the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, Dresden, based after models by Friedrich Elias Meyer (German, 1723-1785). Done in the Rococo style, each is in the form of a standing musician in elaborate Asian style costume, PSNC.8420.1 is in the form of a female figure playing a hurdy-gurdy, PSNC.8420.2 is in the form of a male figure playing a mandolin. From these figures the central column support rises in the form of a tree, this support forms the central candle socket, which is surrounded by four arms with applied floral decoration. The extending arms are detachable. The base of each stands on four scrolled feet. They are marked on the underside with two crossed swords in blue.
