Description
A jardinière (or planter) (English, 1879) manufactured by Minton, Stoke-on-Trent, England. The majolica planter has a circular opening rim, low neck, and bulbous body with two ring handles on either side. The body is decorated in low relief with turquoise scrolling foliage with highlights of white and yellow against a dark blue ground. The whole is raised on four short legs molded with grotesque masks of mythical beasts. The underside is impressed “MINTONS”, along with the symbol of a triangle within a triangle, indicating an 1879 production date, three slashes, and the number “1798”.
