Description
MAHOGANY CHITARRONE (Italian, 1792) by Giuseppe Presbler (German, active Italy, 1760-1801 Milan). It is constructed with mahogany veneer and a mother of pearl inlay. It is labeled "Giuseppe Presbler Made by Joseph Presbler near the Customs House in Milan, at the sign of the sun, 1792." It is believed that this instrument was collected by Stanford White and given as a gift to the King family upon completion of the McKim, Mead, and White addition to Kingscote.
