Description
"FAUN" (French, 1879) by Mathurin Moreau (French, 1822-1912). The marble sculpture depicts a female nude figure with small insect wings, hair gathered in a loose bun, wearing a small amount of drapery which flows behind her and which she holds gathered in her right hand along with a cattail stalk. The figure stands on a low rectangular limestone base. The sculpture is signed and dated around the lower edge of the base. A bronze version of this work was exhibited at the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition where it was admired by E.J. Berwind.
