Description
A STATUARY GROUPING DEPICTING VULCAN, GOD OF FIRE AND THE FORGE (French, c. 1910) along with his wife Aphrodite, by the workshops of Jules Allard et ses Fils, Paris, composed of soft French limestone. The figure of Vulcan holds his sword aloft while seated upon his anvil which is flanked by his shield on the reverse, windswept drapery billows around his shoulders. The figure of Aphrodite kneels before Vulcan and has her arms draped over Vulcan’s legs while she gazes up at the god. This statuary group sits on the roofline of The Elms along with PSNC.11329, PSNC.11330, PSNC.11331, PSNC.11332, PSNC.11333, PSNC.11334, and PSNC.11335.
