Description
AN EMPIRE AUBUSSON CARPET (French, c. 1810) with a mocha colored ground and central ivory roundel decorated with a large flower head encircled by a floral garland and flanked on two sides by a cornucopia and lyre. Each corner features a swan surrounded by scrolling acanthus leaves in tones of violet, tan, and light blue centering on large bellflowers, all within a similarly colored floral border. The exterior border features stylized orange and tan colored fleur de lys sprouting from flower heads.
