"DIANE ANNONCANT LA NUIT" OR "DIANA ANNOUNCING THE NIGHT" (French, late 19th century), an oil on canvas ceiling painting installed on the Dining Room ceiling of The Breakers. The painting depicts the goddess Diana crowned with a crescent moon driving her chariot drawn by four white horses across the sky. To her right two huntresses draped in red carry their bow and arrows. Groups of cherubs carry garlands of flowers and drapery around the edges of the canvas. On the right the figure of Fame blows her trumpet while a reclined female figure on a cloud carries a garland of flowers, on the left a related figure plays with a cherub, holding some fruit out of its reach forcing him to grab for it.
