Description
A PAIR OF CARVED GILT-WOOD "X" ARMCHAIRS (French, 1895) from the workshop of Jules Allard and Sons, Paris. The chairs have backrests carved with scrolling foliage and decorated with applied fringe tassels in rose pink. The carved and scrolled armrests are surmounted by lion masks. The seats are upholstered in rose pink damask. The sides of the armrests and armrest supports are carved in a leaf tip pattern. The elaborately carved legs have raised female masks on each side above scroll feet carved with grotesque masks. Each pair of legs is connected by a lion mask medallion at center. The gilt-wood is finished in gold and silver.
