A Set of Giltwood & Gold Cut Velvet Furniture

A SET OF GILT-WOOD & GOLD CUT VELVET FURNITURE (French, 1895) from the workshop of Jules Allard and Sons. The set is composed of two bergeres with matching seat cushions (.1ab-.2ab), a small settee (.3), and a chaise lounge with matching cushions (.4a-d). All are upholstered in contemporary gold silk cut fabric.

.1ab - .2ab – The matching bergeres have scrolled armrests carved with foliage and winged female faces. The shaped and molded seat rail has a stylized shell design at center with flanking foliage along the sides. The four cabriole legs have shells carved at the knees and end in paw feet. The seat cushion is edged with a wide braid.

.3 – The small settee has an upholstered back rest with a flat arched top rail surmounted by a carved dolphin crest, curved padded armrests carved with scrolling foliage, a molded and shaped seat rail carved with a shell and foliage design, the four cabriole legs have shells carved at the knees and end in paw feet.

.4a-d – The right arm chaise lounge has a molded top rail and scrolled support carved with foliage, the shaped seat rail is carved with a shell and flanking leaf motif, it stands on six cabriole legs with shells carved at the knees and ending in paw feet.
