Description
A PAIR OF LARGE ORMOLU ANDIRONS (OR CHENETS) (French, 19th century) from Bouhon Frères of Paris. The andirons have concave-sided triangular bases with dolphin heads ornamenting the corners. Above this are lion masks with festoons of fruiting foliage hanging from their mouths. The upper parts of the triangular baluster forms are chiseled with cherub heads surrounded by foliage. The andirons are topped with foliate urns with flambeaux finials.
