Description
A set of six figural candelabra (French, c. 1891) from the workshop of Jules Allard and Sons, composed of patinated bronze with lights wired for gas and electricity. Original to the ballroom of Marble House, the set is made up of four standing candelabras and two attached to the mantel. The mantel candelabra represent Old Age (PSNC.447.1) and Youth (PSNC.447.2), the reverse of Youth is signed "J. ALLARD ET FILS Paris 1891." The eleven feet tall standing candelabra have brèche violette marble plinth bases which support two bronze putti figures encircling the foliate shaped candelabra branches. The bronze stalactite ornamentation around the marble bases is a design motif reflected thought out the house.
