Description
A LARGE CARVED OAK SETTEE (French, late 19th century) from the workshop of Jules Allard and Sons with upholstery by Gilbert Cuel. Done in the Renaissance style, the rectangular back, seat, and armrests are upholstered in red satin with gold appliqué. The elaborate carved back frame has a pierced foliate deign with grotesque masks along the bottom. The padded armrests connect to scroll supports with carved lion heads. The settee stands on eight tapered fluted legs with flower head capitals. The legs are connected by a series of block stretchers carved with foliate medallions. En suite with the chair set PSNC.217.1-.8.
