Description
A LOUIS XIV STYLE GRAY PAINTED AND BRONZE DORE TRIMMED BUREAU (French, late 19th century) from the workshop of Jules Allard and Sons. Part of the original bedroom set for Alva Vanderbilt’s bedroom at Marble House. The bombe shaped bureau has a gray and white marble top with a molded edge. Two long drawers fitted with bronze hardware sit below an acanthus leaf frieze. The front corners of the bureau are decorated with putti shaped caryatids, below them the bureau is fitted with curling bronze acanthus leaves. The bureau stands on four cabriole legs with paw shaped sabots.
