Description
A LOUIS XIV STYLE GRAY PAINTED VANITY BENCH (French, late 19th century) from the workshops of Jules Allard and Sons, with upholstery by Pregaldini, Paris. Original to Alva Vanderbilt’s bedroom at Marble House, the oblong bench has a caned seat and curved caned sides. The loose seat cushion is upholstered in purple velvet with a silver braid trim and large hanging tassels at the corners. The bench stands on four cabriole legs carved with acanthus leaves and end in foliate toes.
