Description
A chest on stand (Japanese, 17th century; French, 19th century) composed out of japanned wood with metal hardware on a gilt wood base. This Japanese chest (17th century) is decorated with gilt designs of buildings and animals within a landscape setting. The two central doors open to reveal multiple interior drawers with similar designs. The French gilt-wood stand (19th century) features an apron carved with lion head masks on the corners and a central shell design with trailing leaves. It stands on four tapered block legs connected by a cross stretcher with a raised urn and garlands at center.
