SILVER PEN TRAY WITH TWO PENS AND PENCIL (American, mid-late19th century).
.1 = An oblong silver pen tray with a shallow raised edge and a v-shaped depressed channel. The tray stands on four ball feet.
.2 = A triangular shaped silver pencil/ruler. One side of the pencil is marked in inches and the other is engraved with the monogram "H.S.V." for Harold S. Vanderbilt (1884-1970). The end twists to expose the pencil tip and the center pulls open to extend the ruler length to eight inches.
.3-.4= Two silver nib pens engraved with the monogram "W.K.V." for William Kissam Vanderbilt (1849-1920).
