Description
A PAIR OF SNAKE HANDELED VASES (German, c. 1850) manufactured by the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, Dresden, Germany. The matching baluster-shaped vases are done in glazed white porcelain with gilt highlights. The gadrooned opening rim is flanked by a pair of coiled snake handles, known as ‘schlangenvasen’, designed by E.A. Leuteritz for Meissen. The vases stand on fluted circular bases. The underside is marked in blue with two crossed swords, the painter’s number "29", and incised "8 / E 116."
