Description
A Chinese export punch bowl (Chinese, c. 1770), with a gilt rim, painted in a famille-rose palette. The exterior is decorated with two cartouches outlined in iron-red and gilt scrollwork, and peony floral sprays against a white ground. The more ornate of these cartouches depicts four men dressed in robes standing by a dragon screen. The other cartouche depicts a sitting woman with European features and her standing male attendant atop a stylized platform. A small floral spray decorates the center of the bowl. The bowl stands on a low circular base.
