Description
An American silver porringer (Boston, c. 1750) made by Samuel Minott (1732-1803) of Boston, MA. The porringer has a circular body and shaped, pierced fanwork tab handle. The handle is marked with the Armstrong family symbol of an armor clad arm holding an axe. The underside of the porringer is engraved in script with a false family history of the piece. It reads: "Used by my grandfather / Col. Wm Armstrong / at the house of his grandfather / David Armstrong / of / Kirtleton, Dumfriesshire, Scotland / about 1750 / DMA / 1918."
