John Montagu, Duke of Montagu

A mezzotint portrait entitled "John Montagu, Duke of Montagu" (English, dated 1731) engraved by John Faber the Younger (English, c. 1684-1756), after a painting by Sir Godfrey Kneller (English, 1646-1723). The subject, John Montagu, the 2nd Duke of Montagu (1690-1749), is depicted at half-length, standing and facing forward. He wears a long curly wig, a velvet waistcoat, white cravat, and sash. He holds a staff in his right hand and a hat under his left arm. Inscribed beneath the image on the lower left is "G. Kneller Bart. Pinxt. 1709." Opposite on the lower right is "J. Faber Fecit 1731." On the bottom right corner it is marked "6." The print is housed in a black painted wooden frame.
