Description
A pewter plate (American, c. 1785) made by Joseph Belcher Jr. (1751- ca. 1787). The circular plate has a flat rim. The reverse is marked two partially struck oval touch-marks that contain a bird in profile and have "JOSEPH BELCHER" written around the edge. Below this it is inscribed "N. LONDON" in a rectangular block. This plate was made after Belcher left Newport, RI and set up shop in New London, CT.
